ITENE – INSTITUTO TECNOLOGICO DEL EMBALAJE, TRANSPORTE Y LOGISTICA (ITENE)
Website: www.itene.com
Description:
ITENE is a specialist Technological Centre in R&D in packaging, logistics, transport and mobility. Located in Valencia (Spain), its mission is to generate scientific and technological knowledge and to add value to companies through the implementation of R+D+I and through the transfer of knowledge.
ITENE provides business solutions with an integrated view of the supply chain, from raw materials to the design and development of packaging, optimization of logistics and distribution of goods until the products reach consumers and are ultimately managed as waste, all within a framework of sustainable performance.
ITENE collaborates with research centers and companies around the world, encouraging cooperation and technology transfer.
The centre was founded in 1994 and currently employs 153 persons. It has a multidisciplinary team of researchers and technicians with proven experience and constantly evolving skills. ITENE uses 7,105 square metres of its installations as laboratories and experimentation facilities, equipped with the latest technology for research and testing activities.
ITENE research area covers:
- New Advanced Materials (Development strategies to obtain new packaging materials with better properties)
- Active & Intelligent Packaging (Materials that release active substances from the packaging or absorb undesirable substances from the product to prolong the shelf life)
- Packaging Technologies (vacuum, modified atmosphere)
- Packaging Engineering (Transport simulation technologies)
- Sustainability (Waste valorisation, LCA, LCC, Carbon Footprint)
- Transport and Logistics (route optimization, distribution modelling, urban mobility)
- Electronics, Robotics and Industry 4.0
Main Tasks:
ITENE is the MERLIN project Coordinator and will have the leadership of WP2 (Development of DELAMINATION processes of each multilayer structure sorted using green solvents and supercritical CO2).
In WP3, ITENE will participate to the RECYCLING processes of the separated fractions and monomers, supporting task leaders in activities regarding additives and formulation in plastics.
In WP4, ITENE will actively participate to the Development and VALIDATION of packaging demonstrators based on recycled PET and Polyolefins (PE, PP), supporting the leadership of the test cases regarding flexible and rigid packaging and leading the task regarding circularity of the processes.
In WP5, ITENE will actively participate to the assessment of the environmental, economic, social, legislative and regulatory barriers of the developed processes by leading the health and safety impact of the project though a safety by process design analysis.
In WP6, ITENE will actively participate to the increasement of knowledge within stakeholders by means of Good Practices and learning experience, will translate results of the delamination process into knowledge in order that CSCP can convert it into good practices. Moreover, ITENE will design and print a QR code in order to facilitate information of the recycling processes used in the manufacturing process to the consumers.
Finally, in WP7, ITENE will participate to crosscutting activities and innovation impacts leading the networking and clustering with ingoing projects.
